So This Is Pretzel Logic July 25, 2006

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, better known as Steely Dan, have posted a weird, chemically altered, meandering letter accusing Owen Wilson of stealing a character from one of their songs to make a bad movie.

“…well, man, something kind of uncool has come to our attention and we’ve got to, like, do something or say something before the scene gets out of our control and something even more uncool happens.”

Gag? Publicity stunt? You be the judge.

This has got to be a gag! Muffin basket?!? I bet no one in either camp had anything to do with the prank, but I’d love to know who did it.

The song “Cousin Dupree,” and pretty much everything Becker and Fagen have done since the Gaucho album, sucks bigtime. Frankly, at this point, Steely Dan can use all the help they can get.

It does smack of some desperate, hipster publicity stunt. But it’s on their site so it’s at least somewhat legit. And you must admit, you always suspected they spoke just like this.
